Veliko Gradiste is situated in the north- eastern part of Serbia at the edge of Panonski Basin and very near the confluence of the river Pek into Danube.
The urban history of Veliko Gradiste began at the end of first and the beginning of second century AD when the Romans, searching for ore, conquered a Thracian tribe of Pickens. At that place, they built Castrum, an important military fortress and the town Pincum, which got its name after the river Pincus- nowadays Pek |
